Steven Tatum taught high school English in Hartford for five years. He moved to Hartford from his home state of Vermont where he taught for the first five years of his career. As a teacher and NEA member in Vermont, he was honored with Vermont NEA’s Human and Civil Rights Award for his work organizing with teachers and parents in his district around issues of equity and racial identity. While he left the classroom, he retained his HFT membership to continue to support teachers in building the best educational experience possible for Hartford students.  Steven earned BA and MAT degrees from Bard College, where he studied philosophy, literature, and education. He is a member of The People’s Saturday School, an emerging worker owned cooperative of facilitators based in Hartford.  He enjoys attending community events, gardening, reading, and kayaking on the Connecticut River.
