HFT applauds President Joe Biden for launching a task force to empower workers to organize and successfully bargain with their employers. Unions are the road to reducing income inequality in the United States because they fight for decent wages, benefits and working conditions, thereby moving more workers into the middle class. As unions decline, income inequality increases. President Biden took a step towards truly addressing income inequality by empowering workers to form unions, without the backlash that Amazon workers in Alabama faced when recently trying to do just that (all while CEO Jeff Bezos makes billions). President Biden’s actions work to remove the obstacles to collective bargaining and offer more promise that workers can join together for their betterment.
