Hartford Federation Teachers wants safe environments in all our schools. We work with our central office at every opportunity to improve conditions towards greater safety. We are disheartened by yesterday’s tragic event at one of our Hartford high schools that resulted in serious injury to a student as well as in the fatal mass shooting at a Texas elementary school. We know such traumatic events affect the mental health of our staff and students. Safety comes from trust. Trust in one’s colleagues, trust in administration, and trust in leadership. We are committed to ensuring that safety is upheld throughout Hartford schools.
