The Connecticut State Department of Education (CSDE) requires that all educators must teach or serve grade levels and/or content that is within their area of certification for their regularly scheduled instructional time. Teaching outside one’s certification places the district out of compliance with the CSDE. The only time an educator can teach outside their area of certification is when covering another teacher’s class.
